What the funding compass contains

  • KfW 300 — home ownership for families. New build and first purchase, €170,000 to €270,000. Income-related; the limit is €90,000 taxable household income with one child.
  • KfW 308 — Jung kauft Alt. Purchase of an old building in need of refurbishment by families: €140,000 / €160,000 / €180,000 by number of children, tier applying from 3 August 2026. Compulsory refurbishment within four and a half years.
  • KfW 261 — refurbishment to Effizienzhaus standard. Loan with a repayment grant; the EE class is now compulsory.
  • KfW 297/298 — climate-friendly new build. Mutually exclusive with 261 for the same residential unit.

What would you like to receive?

How many KfW programmes are there in 2026, and what do they cover?

Eight KfW programmes cover purchase, new build and refurbishment in 2026, each with its own amount.

What is the funding compass? A four-page overview putting all eight programmes side by side — sorted by purpose, with the amount that currently applies. Bilingual German and English, because the application is filed under the German programme name.

What does it cost? Nothing. The PDF opens directly, without a form. If you would rather have it in your inbox, enter your name and email.

What is the most common mistake?

The application comes too late. It has to be filed before the project starts and runs through the financing bank, not directly with KfW. A purchase contract signed beforehand costs you the funding. To the KfW funding check.

Why funding comes before financing

Subsidised funding makes a mortgage noticeably cheaper — but only if the application is filed in time and through the right bank. Neither is a formality.

The application runs through the bank: KfW does not lend directly; it lends through participating institutions. Not every bank passes through every programme. Anyone who picks a bank first and asks about funding afterwards has already narrowed the field.

The application must precede the project

The project starts with the purchase contract or the building order.

Whatever is not applied for before that is lost — there is no retrospective approval. This is the mistake that costs the most money and is the easiest to avoid.

What rules each other out has to be known in advance

KfW 261 and 297/298 cannot be combined for the same residential unit.

The supplementary loan 358/359, conversely, is designed to come on top of an approved grant. Rules like these decide tens of thousands of euros and sit next to each programme in the compass.

Frequently asked questions

Which KfW funding is available in 2026 for buying a property?

For a purchase with no further conditions, the home-ownership programme 124 with up to €100,000. Families with children building or buying their first home fall under programme 300 with €170,000 to €270,000, income-related. Anyone buying an old building in need of refurbishment finds tiered amounts by number of children in Jung kauft Alt 308.

Can I combine several KfW programmes?

Some yes, some no. KfW 261 (refurbishment to Effizienzhaus standard) and KfW 297/298 (climate-friendly new build) are mutually exclusive for the same residential unit. The supplementary loan 358/359, by contrast, is designed to come on top of an approved grant. Which combination works in your case is something we check as part of the financing.

When does the funding application have to be filed?

Always before the project starts — and through the financing bank, not directly with KfW. A purchase contract or building order signed before the application costs you the funding. That is the most common avoidable mistake.

Do you file the application for me?

The financing bank submits it. Our job is to find the bank that passes through the programme you need and to finance your own share alongside it — both belong in the same financing.

Is there an overview of all KfW programmes with current amounts?

Yes — that is exactly what this funding compass is. Four pages, eight programmes side by side, each with amount, purpose and repayment grant, bilingual German and English. Free as a PDF, to open directly or by email.
