KfW funding check — which programme fits your project?

Eight KfW programmes, eight different sets of requirements. 5 questions on project type, use, children, income and prior property — then see which programmes are generally in reach and what matters for each.

Which KfW programme fits my project?

Eight KfW programmes cover new builds, renovation, heating replacement, purchase, conversion and renewable energy — and they differ sharply in their requirements: some need a child in the household and an income cap (300, 308), some a specific energy class for the property (308), others have no conditions at all (124). The funding check below matches your project to the right programmes in five questions — including a note when two programmes are mutually exclusive for the same unit. Does not replace the actual application review by the KfW or the relaying bank.

Your project in 5 questions

Each answer narrows down the matching programmes. The result is a rough pre-assessment — not an application review by the KfW or the relaying bank.

These programmes are in reach

A rough pre-assessment based on the five standard criteria — not an application review by the KfW or the relaying bank, and not a financing commitment. Actual eligibility depends on the full review, including the property's energy certificate and the exact taxable income.

    What's behind the funding check

    Five questions, no commitment

The funding check doesn't replace an application review — it shows which of the eight KfW programmes are generally in reach for your project based on the standard criteria. Two traps come up especially often: first, some programmes are mutually exclusive for the same unit (297/298 and 300, for example) — worth comparing which one pays off more in your case. Second, actual eligibility for 308 also depends on the property's energy certificate, which the check doesn't ask about.

And the one rule that applies to all eight: the application must be submitted before the purchase contract or before the project begins — through the financing bank, never directly at the KfW. That's exactly where we come in.

    FAQ

    Frequently asked questions

    Is the result binding?
No. The funding check gives a rough read on your project based on five standard criteria. Binding eligibility is only confirmed once the application goes through your bank to the KfW — including points not asked here, such as the exact energy certificate of an existing property.
Why does it sometimes show two programmes at once?
Because several programmes can generally fit the same project — for example 124 as an unconditional alternative alongside 300 for families. Some combinations are mutually exclusive for the same unit though; that's flagged in the note below the result.
What if none of the eight programmes fit?
A conversation is still worthwhile — every German state runs its own funding programmes with their own criteria, not covered here, plus municipal programmes that are rarely on anyone's radar.
Does the income cap change with the number of children?
Yes. For 300 and 308, the figure shown applies to one child; it rises by €10,000 per additional child. The relevant figure is the average of the two tax assessments before the application year, not current gross salary.
